Job Overview

The Specimen Receipt & Processing Associate 2 is responsible for ensuring that all samples collected, received, and/or shipped are maintained, tracked, and managed for complete traceability and accountability.                


  • Responsible for scheduling and collecting clinical specimens in a laboratory environment.
  • Responsible for accessioning and problem resolution, ensuring all samples are accurately identified, sorted, and labeled for testing and/or storage.
  • Identifies errors or the potential for problems and escalates to senior level staff.
  • Notifies customers of receipt and engages as necessary regarding routine inquiries.
  • Responsible for freezer and inventory maintenance.
  • Guides entry level staff on basic department procedures and assist with on-boarding of new staff.
  • May support and respond to after-hour alarms and/or other job critical functions.
  • Supports safety, quality, and 6S requirements and initiatives.
  • Maintains necessary phlebotomy supplies.
  • Complies with company's procedures and regulatory requirements, as applicable.
  • Responsible for clear, accurate, and timely communications with cross functional stakeholders.
  • Participates in continuing education through self-study, attending training sessions and meetings.
  • Performs work in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural science field or equivalent required; BS in life science preferred; laboratory experience preferred.
  • At least six months of phlebotomy experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Requires basic knowledge of laboratory systems and procedures and demonstrated ability to navigate and resolve routine challenges.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant procedures.
  • Knowledge of GLP regulations preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Self-motivated; able to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients.
